Yes I know I am repeating myself, but isn’t it rather moist in certain parts for the time or year. Anyway the games are here or almost here, and a time to celebrate all types of sporting endeavor, even new aquatic events.
So what’s on the agenda this month to excite you.

Less Talk and More Action at New Designers
New Designers this year was a huge success for the BCFA and IDA and really shows that we are leading the industry with our support for education. This is the real hands on action that students and the education system need and welcome. Adele Stewart did a great job in organizing activities and I also want to thank Lugo Group Europe and Gensler for sponsoring the Awards and the numerous designers who attended the education clinics and gave one to one meetings with 120 students.
Please have a look at the reports below and perhaps consider if you can add your support to our education programme.

PS. I also met an interesting Australian designer, Felicity Dessewffy who is looking for manufacturing partners in the UK. See her products and contact details at www.dessewffy.com.au
By now you will have received information about the new BCFA and IDA publication due for launch in January 2013. The Insider replaces the members Directory and is the only annual publication that showcases all BCFA and IDA members.
This is a substantial publication with a contemporary visual appeal and I would suggest it becomes part of your promotional plans for 2013.
We are also looking for the best projects of 2012 and innovations in manufacturing to include in new features and so please contact Mary Nannery about this.

Summer Networking with Nelson
The summer networking event was a huge success and more popular than ever. Again we are sorry for any members who were unable to get tickets. The roof terrace at the Trafalgar Hotel in Trafalgar Square was an outstanding location with a fine view across London and a near eye to eye with Nelson. The weather held out which is was a bonus and for Photographs Please CIick Here
The Hotel Industry Forum in Portugal 22 to 24 June attracted 19 BCFA members. It was considered to be an effective opportunity to meet buyers and interior designers.
The next event is the Contract Interiors Forum at The Grange St Pauls Hotel, London on 17 and 18 September. For BCFA members the standard cost per delegate is reduced by £495 to £1500.

The Commons Touch
From the 9 to 12 July the BCFA took part in a BFC initiative and exhibition at the House of Commons. This was to highlight the importance of the industry to the UK economy and raise awareness of issues key to our prosperity where the government can help. Members Herman Miller, Bisley and Knightsbridge supplied products for the exhibition which represented all sectors including contract and domestic.

The Social Network
We are using Facebook and Twitter both of which are at times seriously overused by some people. We use them sparingly and to point you to something of importance (so generally not a humorous whimsy from me)
I would recommend you follow the BCFA on Twitter http://twitter.com/thebcfa
The BCFA Regional Network
The summer networking event and the other events this year are increasingly popular. But we are also planning more regional events and if you have some views on this, drop me a line.
We will update you on this within the next few weeks.
Exports and business internationally is rapidly becoming a key route to improving sales prospects. We have seen a considerable increase in interest for exhibitions in overseas markets and we are providing additional support in this sector
Index International Design Exhibition, Dubai, will be moving to 20-23 May in 2013, and
will be combining with the Office Show to include new dedicated sectors to cover
Educational and Healthcare furniture and furnishings.
This change in date may well suit member’s diaries and the expansion to cover all our core markets is very welcome and well worth considering.
Contact Sue Graves for more information
Although it is a key market for your exports, it is not a straightforward area in which to build sales. So, we have arranged a briefing session on the market for you. It will be held on Thursday 20th September 10.00-12.30 at the Herman Miller National Design Centre 61 Aldwych, London. It also will provide information on Decorus Event in Moscow during 2013.
