Three different models have been designed by Knightsbridge specifically for those residents and in-patients who fall into the bariatric category – that is, who weigh typically 35-50 stones and who frequently present associated health and mobility problems. The Ashton, Dalton and Hamilton bariatric models combine both style and functionality, despite their enhanced size and strength, ensuring that they merge comfortably into a mixed residential community and complement other seating from the Knightsbridge portfolio whilst providing for the special needs of larger residents.

The Ashton is a sturdy and sumptuously upholstered motorised rise recliner for users weighing up to 35 stones. An easy remote control allows the back to be poised at any angle to allow the user to find a comfortable seating position, with additional support provided by the padded arms and wings.

In addition, Knightsbridge has extended two of its established armchair ranges - the contemporary Dalton and the classic Hamilton - to incorporate bariatric models. High-back, mid-back and upright versions all have supportive arms and handgrips to aid rising and waterfall seats to reduce pressure on the backs of legs. Enhanced lumbar support ensures that correct posture is maintained even after prolonged periods, with other features including minimal stitching in contact areas to avoid risk of infection, removable seat cushions to allow easy cleaning under the seat and a hygiene gap between seat and back to prevent the creation of a dirt-trap.

Additional Dalton design options include housekeeping wheels to aid patient transfer and felt-padded glides to help prevent the scratching of laminate flooring.
