London 2012 Opportunities

We continue to explore the routes to supply for the Olympic Games and will be building information for members.

Members Forum

We received interest from over 50 members and I would suggest that we have a forum where you can network and exchange information. We are considering two methods for this:

  • A web site portal where information and experiences can be lodged.
  • If members are interested we will circulate their contact details to the interest group and they can select which companies are suitable to contact and share information or perhaps network with.

Members should advise This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if they want to participate
We will circulate the list only to those who want to participate

Opportunities Outside the 2012 Site

The Olympic site is one thing but on the periphery and even wider in the south east there are many opportunities. Stratford City has a mass the size of Oxford Street with shops, hotel, restaurants, a possible casino etc. It is a development by Westfield. At the heart of this development surrounded by offices, hotels and new residential apartments will be Westfield Stratford City, a spectacular 1.9 million sq ft world-class retail and leisure destination.http://uk.westfield.com/stratfordcity

Information on Procurement

Colin Watson met with the CEO of London Business Network* (LBN) to explore how to open the channel for information for our industry and have agreed the following:

  • BCFA will provide the type of information that our industry needs
    • Who are the design specifiers
    • What is the scope of product supply and who is buying it
    • What is the sourcing requirement – buy or rental
    • What is the procurement timetable
  • LBN will visit ODA and LOCOG for more research and contacts
  • We are arranging to meet the Head of Procurement of LOCOG to explore their requirements and explain the help, solutions and products that BCFA members can provide.
  • We will after all this hopefully have a flow of information that has more clarity

* LBN are stakeholders in CompeteFor. This is the purchasing portal for the 2012 Games. To receive supply opportunities you should be registered with CompeteFor and details are at www.competefor.com

A Note on CompeteFor

There is a move to take CompeteFor beyond the London Games and have it as a purchasing portal for the government. We are supporting this initiative and I will be adding it to our government lobby. It is already being rolled out to London Boroughs, the LDA, Transport for London and The Met Police.
