On 25 October 1949, Vitafoam received cheque payment for its first delivery of mattresses to Wrays furniture retailers in Lees, Oldham. Today, 70 years later the company is a leading manufacturer of foam for the furniture and bedding industry. Established in 1949 on £100 of capital, the Group is now present in 14 countries and its annual production of mattresses would more than circle the globe.
In 2019 Vita has marked its 70 years of innovative solutions, by winning some significant industry awards, in May it achieved the prestigious Best of the Best award at Interzum 2019 with its customer Veldeman for the Velda Resleep sleep system and in September its TCPP-free foam for furniture and bedding won the NBF Innovation of the Year award at the Bed Show.
Over recent weeks employees across Europe are taking part in 70 challenges; among them the team at Middleton have been collecting for a local food bank and will present their donation to the Middleton Central Foodbank on Wednesday 23 October. The foodbank was set up by a local charity to help tackle family hunger and to support people who find themselves experiencing different seasons of crisis.

Vita is marking its 70th anniversary today by planting a tree in the grounds of its head office in Middleton, Manchester.
